Walking in the woods today I
came upon a cabin.
Small and dark with windows
like portals ~ not unlike others I had passed.
A voice from inside brought me to
an abrupt halt.
"Who is in there?" I asked.
The tone and cadence of his speech
was familiar.
But the endless flow emanated such dissonance,
making it unrecognizable to me.
See-sawing between bravado and fear,
love and hatred, compassion and indifference.
"Do I know you? Who is in there?" blurted
from my mouth.
Then I listened closer and heard ~
"Walking in the woods today, I came upon a cabin."
